The 23rd (All Saints Stand) Scout Group

Our Group was formed in 1972. The Group badge is a stick drawing of a saint. The more mature will recognise it as the “signature” of Simon Templar, a creation of author Leslie Charteris. Leslie had copyrighted the drawing but gave the Group permission to use it.

Due to lack of Leaders, the Group had to close in 2001, but reopened 10 years later with 7 Beavers. We now have 12 Beavers, 11 Cubs and 12 Scouts. Unfortunately we are still short of Leaders – there are only 2 – although parents do help when they can. Consequently the Scouts meet as a joint Troop with those of the 8th (St Margaret’s).

Beavers and Cubs meet in All Saints’ School, Rufford Drive on Mondays and Scouts in the District HQ, Frankton Road on Thursdays.

Beavers are aged 6 to 8 years, Cubs 8 to 10½  and Scouts 10½ to 14. At 14 the young person moves to Explorer Scouts. Our programme is based on “we give skills for life”;

The Purpose of Scouting

Scouting exists to actively engage and support young people in their personal development, empowering them to make a positive contribution to society.

The Values of Scouting

As Scouts we are guided by these values:

  • Integrity – We act with integrity; we are honest, trustworthy and loyal
  • Respect – We have self-respect and respect for others
  • Care – We support others and take care of the world in which we live
  • Belief – We explore our faiths, beliefs and attitudes
  • Co-operation – We make a positive difference; we co-operate with others and make friends

The Scout Method

Scouting takes place when young people, in partnership with adults, work together based on the values of Scouting and:

  • Enjoy what they are doing and have fun
  • Take part in activities indoors and outdoors
  • Learn by doing
  • Share in spiritual reflection
  • Take responsibility and make choices
  • Undertake new and challenging activities
  • Make and live by their Promise

Whenever possible, we join in events organised both by our District and County. During the summer we helped at the District Fun Day and Beavers attended the County Beaver Fun Day at Bibbys Farm Camp Site.

A typical meeting starts with a game and after a short break for a drink and biscuit, we do some badge work. Some of the games are aimed at helping the young people to understand the activity.

For more information or to ask about your child joining, contact a Leader.
